Tiktok has been filled with rumours that One Direction are planning to appear at the Brit Awards to pay tribute to Liam Payne. However, there is practically no information to confirm this at present. People have questioned if there will ever be a possibility of the band reuniting after Payne passed away in October last year.

Since the band went on hiatus in 2016, the media have shared endless rumours and speculation about the friendships between the band members. With so much gossip reported, it is difficult to know what is true and what isn’t. Regardless, each member has gone on to pursue a solo career which is most likely the biggest factor preventing a reunion.

Where is each member now?

Harry Styles

Harry Styles has been MIA since the end of Love on Tour, which featured his most recent album, Harry’s House. It’s expected that a 4th album is in the works but nothing has been confirmed about the release date. Styles’ last concert was on the 22nd of July 2023.

Louis Tomlinson

Tomlinson’s last tour, Faith in the Future, concluded on the 6th of June in 2024. The tour promoted his 2nd album of the same name. There is little information on plans for Tomlinson’s 3rd album. Tomlinson’s family life has also been busy in recent years with his sisters Phoebe and Lottie both welcoming their newborns to the family.

Niall Horan

Horan has released 3 albums since the band’s break. These include Flicker (2017), Heartbreak Weather (2020), and The Show (2023). His most recent tour, The Show: Live on Tour, concluded on the 9th of October 2024, a week before Payne’s passing.

Zayn Malik

Malik left the band before the hiatus back in 2015. He did not feature on the band’s last album, Made In The A.M. Malik’s departure was one of the biggest sources of speculation about the band. Since then he has also gone on to develop his solo career. Malik went straight into releasing his own the music in 2016, the year after he left One Direction. However, his first tour only commenced in November 2024. The Stairway to the Sky Tour is due to conclude next month in California.

It’s evident the members are all actively working on their solo careers making a reunion seem less likely. After their bandmate Liam Payne passing, the group may decide a reunion would not be possible without him. It’s difficult to say if a reunion will ever take place with each member in their early thirties. While the group seem occupied with their individual careers and are mourning their close friend, perhaps they will follow in the footsteps of other bands and regroup later in life.
