What’s on one of the nation’s favourite streaming service this week? Up this week we have another installment of Netflix’s Explained, Sexy Beasts, The Movies That Made Us, and How to Become a Tyrant.

Explained is a documentary series that premiered on Netflix in 2018 and I’ve binged the latest episode every time one comes out. Episodes are released on a weekly basis and they range from everyday things from money to the bohemian like tattoos and the female orgasm.

The show is produced by Vox Media and is based on Vox’s previous YouTube video series which followed a similar format. The latest episode is about Royalty.

  • Sexy Beasts

Sexy Beasts is a British reality television dating game show produced by Lion Television and aired on BBC Three from 14 February to 9 September 2014. The show features people being transformed with prosthetic makeup into animal and mythical creatures. In 2021, Netflix released a version of the show with comedian Rob Delaney providing the voice over.

  • The Movies that Made Us

This is a documentary series created by Brian Volk-Weiss, and a spin off to The Toys That Made Us. The four episode debut season of the new series is dedicated to popular movies from the 1980s and 1990s and tells the stories behind them.

Previous episodes include the stories behind Home Alone, Die Hard, Dirty Dancing and Ghostbusters. This season’s episodes are about Back to the Future, Pretty Woman, Jurassic Park and Forrest Gump.

  • How to Become a Tyrant

How to Become a Tyrant is a docu-series based on The Dictator’s Handbook, and narrated by everybody’s favourite, Peter Dinklage.

The series follows the methods and tactics used by some of the most infamous tyrants throughout history including Adolf Hitler, Saddam Hussein, Idi Amin, Joseph Stalin, Muammar Gaddafi and Kim Il-sung.
