If you are planning on tavelling this summer, it is important to remember to be sustainable. Oxygen has combined a list of tips on how students can reduce their carbon footprint while still enjoying their travelling.

  1. Bring multi-purpose toiletries.
  2. Pack a reusabale bag for any shopping you might do.
  3. Pack a reusbale water bottle particularly if you’re travelling to a hot destination.
  4. If flying check if your airline has any environmental initiatives.
  5. Consider walking, cycling or taking public transport over cars/taxis.
  6. If renting a car choose a hybrid or electric option.
  7. Unplug any electronics in your accomdation that are not in use. They can drain energy once plugged in.
  8. Take home unfinished toiletries as they are usually thrown away. The bottles can also be reused when travelling again.
  9. Return brochures at the end of tours so they can be reused.
  10. Support small businesses as they usually use locally sourced and seasonal foods.
  11. Select E tickets when possible instead of paper tickets. You can also travel with digital ID by obtaining an ISIC card. This card will give you access to a variety of student discounts and lets you travel without a passport. Head to https://www.isic.ie/ for more info.
