If you are planning on tavelling this summer, it is important to remember to be sustainable. Oxygen has combined a list of tips on how students can reduce their carbon footprint while still enjoying their travelling.
- Bring multi-purpose toiletries.
- Pack a reusabale bag for any shopping you might do.
- Pack a reusbale water bottle particularly if you’re travelling to a hot destination.
- If flying check if your airline has any environmental initiatives.
- Consider walking, cycling or taking public transport over cars/taxis.
- If renting a car choose a hybrid or electric option.
- Unplug any electronics in your accomdation that are not in use. They can drain energy once plugged in.
- Take home unfinished toiletries as they are usually thrown away. The bottles can also be reused when travelling again.
- Return brochures at the end of tours so they can be reused.
- Support small businesses as they usually use locally sourced and seasonal foods.
- Select E tickets when possible instead of paper tickets. You can also travel with digital ID by obtaining an ISIC card. This card will give you access to a variety of student discounts and lets you travel without a passport. Head to https://www.isic.ie/ for more info.
