Student Sexual Activity
The Irish Times have polled a whopping 12,000 people on their sexual activity, and the results have everyone talking. Here at Oxygen, we’re going to focus on student sexual activity, and take a look at what college kids are getting up to behind closed doors (or wherever they can). While the sexual activity of other people should have no bearing on what you yourself do, that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a bit of a nosey peek. So let’s dive straight in.
Frequency of Carnal Relations
Looks like the ladies have the lads beaten in terms of how often they get laid. This is based on 17-24 year olds.
The Magic Number
This chart shows, in percentage terms, the number of sexual partners for men and women aged 17-24.
Satisfaction Not Guaranteed
When asked to rate how happy they were with their sex life, students could choose between Very Happy, Somewhat Happy, Neither Happy Nor Unhappy, Somewhat Dissatisfied, or Very Dissatisfied. And it seems the women have the men beat here, too.
One Night Stands
Looks like men have the lead in the number of one night stands. If you’re wondering why these numbers don’t match up, think of it like this: if Stephen sleeps with over 20 women, that’s 20 one night stands for him, but he could be the only/one of the only one night stands for all those women. This is why the bars are higher for women on the left of the chart. It is also why Stephen was out sick last week.
Use of websites/apps for casual sex
While the use of dating apps such as Tinder is on the rise, it seems the number of people using these apps for casual sex is still relatively low.
Australian Kissing
It’s like a French kiss down under. This chart shows the popularity of oral sex. Unfortunately, the question posed to respondents simply asked if they engage in oral sex, and so we can’t compare the ratio of giving to receiving for men and women. Interestingly, 1% of women said they had never engaged in oral sex, while 0% of men gave this answer.
2 Shades of Grey
When asked if they had ever engaged in BDSM (Bondage, dominance, sadism, and masochism), the ratio was the same for both men and women.

There’s far too much information for us to cover here, so these are just some of our favourite bits of information. If you’d like to look at the data in full, visit the Irish Times website.
