WIT student Seán Ó Ciadhra won the Léiriúcháin Teilifíse i nGaeilge – Faisnéis & Drámaíocht award at the 2019 Smedia awards . Seán is a fluent Irish speaker and his documentary ‘Faoin gCeann Tu’ follows the filmmaker as he returns to his ancestral home where his father and uncle lived and where a BBC documentary was shot 60 years previous.

TG4 was established in 1996 and is the only Irish speaking television channel in Ireland. They have invested considerably in Irish television since it was set up and has been hugely influential on the Irish Media industry.

One of the initiatives set up by TG4 is BLOC TV which is a shared social media hub for young people. BLOC host innovative and original Irish speaking audio-visual content. BLOC aims to host content by young people rather than for them.

Údarás na Gaeltachta were also sponsors at the 2019 Smedia awards.
Údarás na Gaeltachta promote the Irish Language across the country as well as the economic, social and cultural development of Irish speaking areas.

They invested €60,000 in the Fanad Light House in Donegal in order to boost tourism. This is just one example of Udaras na Gaeltachta funding tourism in Ireland.

We were delighted to have TG4 and Údarás na Gaeltachta has sponsors this year and we would like to extent our thanks to both for the work they do promoting our language and of course for sponsoring our awards.
