Róisín Phelan from Dublin City University emerged successful at the 2020 Smedias when she took home the ‘RSA Award for Journalism related to Road Safety’.
The Road Safety Authority, RSA, is a state agency formed by the Irish Government to promote Road Safety in the Republic of Ireland. Educational campaigns are extremely important to the RSA, and Róisíns’ feature on the safety of cyclists on Irish roads was exactly what the RSA was looking for, well done Róisín!
This award is truly an important one, as it is the RSAs’ goal to ensure the safety of drivers and pedestrians on the road, and educating them through the media is one of the ways they can get their message across.
The RSA hosts an event called “Leading Lights” to award those who are committed to road safety across various categories, they have an annual newsletter that they use to educate and update people on road safety, and they offer training programmes to help people upskill their road safety!
Well done to Róisín and a huge thank you to the RSA for their continued support for student media and for their continued hard work in keeping Irish roads safe!
