Actor Roger Moore, most famous for playing James Bond, has passed away in Switzerland at the age of 89.

Mr. Moore’s children broke the news on his official Twitter account, saying that he passed away after a “short but brave battle with cancer.”

Moore succeeded Sean Connery in 1973, becoming the third actor to take the mantle of portraying the world’ most famous spy on the big screen. He starred in seven Bond films, beginning with Live And Let Die, over a period of 12 years, making him the longest-serving actor to have taken on the role.

He became a Unicef goodwill ambassador after taking a hiatus from acting in 1990, and was largely involved in humanitarian work for the rest of his life.

He was knighted in 2003 for his services to charity.

We are all shaken to hear the news of his passing.
