2025 is setting up to be a great year for console gamers, with follow ups to some of the most beloved games of recent years, which are long overdue for some fans. This list compiles some of the most highly anticipated games of the year that should be on your radar.
Ghost of Yōtei
Any PlayStation 5 owners are in for a deliciously cinematic treat this year as Ghost of Yōtei, sequel to one of the most visually stunning games of all time, Ghost of Tsushima, has been confirmed for release later this year. As its predecessor Tsushima was one of the best selling video games of summer 2024, four years after its initial release, I have no doubt that this sequel will be just as successful and entertaining.
Death Stranding 2
Yet another sequel has been confirmed this year that is bound to arouse the attention of any fans of cinematic story-based games. Death Stranding 2 is set to release later this year. The original game undoubtedly received mixed reception from gamers universally due to its slow pace, however, going into this sequel with that prior knowledge is bound to attract only the most patient of gamers. We can only hope that the developers give those patient fans a worthy pay off!
Elden Ring Nightreign
Another edition to the Elden Ring universe has been confirmed for release this year, which will excitingly feature 3-player co-op for any gamers that enjoy playing with a group.
Little Nightmares 3
The third instalment in the Little Nightmares universe is set to release some time this year, which is exciting news for the dedicated fans that have been eagerly waiting since last year. This next game looks to be just as promising as the first two, as the developers seem to have a better grasp on encapsulating the eerie and melancholic atmosphere in horror that is unmatched by any recent entries in the genre.
Grand Theft Auto 6
By no means is this game not already on your radar as fans of Grand Theft Auto have been eagerly waiting years for this next instalment. Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to release later this year and will include the first ever female protagonist in the long-running franchise, which is long overdue, but we’ll take it!
Assassin’s Creed Shadows
Having already been delayed twice, fans have been patiently awaiting this games’ release. Assassin’s Creed has a long standing fan base, so I can only hope that the game will be worth the wait!
Mafia: The Old Country
Mafia fans are in for a special treat this year as 2k Games have announced a prequel to the first game in the series. The game is set in 1900’s Sicily and looks to be a promising entry to the franchise.
There are tons of games to look forward to this year, especially for already established fans of these franchises. This list compiles just a few of the most anticipated releases of this year, let’s just hope there are no more delays or push backs as patience is certainly wearing thin!
