The 59th Super Bowl halftime performance saw Kendrick Lamar do a very symbolic and meaningful set, performing his most famous songs, and trying to send a message to the American people.
As many of us have seen on social media today, the star of the show wasn’t only Kendrick, or the special guest SZA, but it also was the Celine flared jeans by Hedi Slimane, which he wore for the entire 13 minutes set and caught everyone’s attention.
This year, Kendrick’s stylist decided to go for a look that resembled more the early/mid 2000s. Lamar’s outfit was described as different and unique, because it differed from the usual straight leg, or a baggy type of jeans that we see nowadays on many celebrities, particularly on many rappers. This has sparked different reactions on the Internet: some users made comments on how this look felt very “ Hannah Montana”, while many other people were struck by the uniqueness, and perhaps also a bit from the nostalgia that this style conveyed.
However, this isn’t the first time that we see a male celebrity rock flare jeans in 2025, but previously at the Paris fashion week in 2024, Pharrel Williams, creative Director of Louis Vuitton, was seen wearing a pair of Louis Vuitton flared, washed denim pants.
What’s been interesting about this look it’s not only the combination between the bellbottoms and the racer jacket that he was wearing, but also the little details in the jeans, which were given the “shredded look”, typical of flared jeans that are usually longer than normal, and therefore, they tend to get ruined at the bottom. This gave the look a kind of sense of authenticity and realistic aesthetic that reminds of the 90s or 2000s Y2K look.
From what I’ve seen on the Internet, many people are now going crazy over this type of jeans and, in particular men, are experimenting with their style to give the bellbottoms another chance to be trendy and stylish.
