Breakup season is well underway. October has passed and so has the October cannon events. Breakups are never easy but it’s important to try and look after yourself while going through one. Here are 5 tips to survive heartbreak.
Feel your feelings
It’s tempting to suppress your emotions when you’re hurt but this will only delay the process. Let out all your feelings whether it’s sadness, shock, anger or anything else. Watch the sad movies and eat the ice cream. Cry if you need to and vent away!
Spend time with your loved ones
Avoid giving into feelings of loneliness and shutting yourself away. Try and find time to catch up with family and friends. They will be both a distraction and a listening ear. Isloating yourself will only make you feel worse. Use the support that is on offer.
Spend time doing things you enjoy
It doesn’t matter what it is once you enjoy it. Whether it’s reading, gaming, baking, playing a sport, spend some time on your hobbies or even try a new one! This will help you to carve new routines that doesn’t involve your previous partner or whoever it is you’re missing.
Get out of the house!
Again, don’t stay in your room all day and dwell on the sadness. Make an effort to get out and get some fresh air. Even if it’s only for a short walk, this will really help your mental health and you’ll be getting exercise too.
Give it time
Healing doesn’t happen overnight and feelings don’t just go away. Be gentle with yourself and allow yourself time to heal. Gradually things will start to get better and you’ll move on. Just don’t run before you can walk!
