Rumours of a Guns N’ Roses reunion have exploded across the internet in the past week after it was revealed that guitarist Slash and front man Axl Rose are now finally speaking again.
The two haven’t been on good terms since the original lineup split in 1996. In an infamous 2009 interview Axl Rose referred to Slash as ‘a cancer’. But now according to an interview with Slash on Swedish TV outlet, Aftonbladet TV, the two have finally reconciled. In the interview Slash said:
“It was probably way overdue, you know, but it’s…you know, it’s very cool at this point. You know, let some of that, sort of, negative … dispel some of that negative stuff that was going on for so long.”
When pushed on whether or not this means a reunion is possible, the guitarist answered:
“Oh, I couldn’t answer that one, though. All right, let’s get off the subject, ’cause, you know, that’s an old one.”
This news comes at quite a convenient time for the current incarnation of Guns N’ Roses as it was announced in the past couple of weeks that the band has lost not one, but two of its lead guitarists; Bumblefoot and DJ Ashba. DJ Ashba has left due to commitments to his family and other band Sixx:AM, while Bumblefoot refuses to elaborate on his status with the band.
On top of all this, guitarist Richard Fortus, who has been playing with the band since 2002 revealed in an interview last week that 2016 will be a big year for Guns N’ Roses. Fortus was also reluctant to specify whether or not he was now the only guitarist in the band, hinting that new guitarists may be involved.
It’s easy to see how many people now believe a reunion is on the cards. The convenient timing of Axl and Slash’s reconciliation with the departure of the band’s current lead guitarists can only hint at big things to come. For now we will have to wait and see.
