As the autumn season has appeared seemingly out of nowhere, this list compiles three seasonally scenic games to celebrate the autumnal season. While not all games are exclusively based or set in autumn, each game captures the cosy atmospheric vibes that you look for during this season.
Ghost of Tsushima
Starting off with a powerhouse that is one of the most visually stunning games of all time, let alone just the season. If you haven’t played this one yet, you’re in for a wildly cinematic treat. Ghost of Tsushima is a 2020 game developed by Sucker Punch productions and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It is an open world game that features some of the most gorgeous visuals that a game can offer. This game will be an instant hit for any fans of the samurai genre, specifically any fans of Akira Kurosawa films.
The Last of Us
While it may seem like an obvious pick as the trailer for the second series of the HBO adaptation just dropped, Naughty Dogs’ The Last of Us is without a doubt one of the most compelling and immersive story driven games of all time. The story is broken up into four seasons, so obviously the autumn segment of the game is dripping with rich autumnal visuals and will undoubtedly satiate the appetites of any autumnal game fanatics.
The Quarry
Potentially a controversial pick as this game is actually set in the summertime, The Quarry actually ticks off all the boxes as to what qualifies as a cosy spooky-season game; it has a rich atmosphere, fun and quirky characters, and a deliciously engrossing story that is perfect for Halloween. Its predecessor, Until Dawn, is arguably just as good, if not better, as it is pure cinematic camp and lighthearted slasher fun for any Halloween themed party or games night.
To mark the (almost) halfway point of the semester, this list might just provide you with something to look forward to during the upcoming reading week.
