UCC student Alana Daly Mulligan won the European Commission Award for Journalism Relating European Affairs at the 2021 National Student Media Awards!

This award is given to the student who has written and published the best article relating to EU affairs. The winner of this category will receive an award, a €1,000 prize that has been very generously donated by the European Commission and will have their article published in either a regional or online publication.

The European Commission helps shape the EU’s overall strategy, propose new EU laws and policies, monitors their implementation and manages the EU budget. It also plays a significant role in supporting international development and delivering aid.

They also help students! Regulations introduced by the EU means that students are in a position to work fair, part-time hours that suit them, preventing employers from taking advantage of them.

We were delighted to partner with the European Commission again at this year’s awards. We’d like to thank them once again for sponsoring this award, the generous €1000 bursary prize and for supporting students writing about EU affairs.

NOTE: This is no monetary prize for the EPA Award for Journalism Relating to the Environment. The only award categories that have a cash prize are the EU Commission, BLOC and SFI award.
